Anna Sergi holds a PhD in Sociology (2014), with specialisation in Criminology, from the Department of Sociology at the University of Essex, where she works since 2015 as Senior Lecturer. Her research specialism is in organised crime studies and comparative criminal justice. She has published extensively in renowned peer-review journals  on topics related to Italian mafias both in Italy and abroad as well as on policing strategies against organised crime across states and organised crime in seaports. Anna is also the recipient of three awards to her research: in 2017 the Italy Made me Award for Social Sciences, in 2018 the Italian Chamber of Commerce in the UK Talented Young Italian award for Research and Innovation and also in 2018 the ESRC Early Career Research Impact Award at the University of Essex.
